About me......

My photographic experience began with monochrome landscapes. While studying photography I was compelled, rather reluctantly, to do some colour work. With that and a macro lens I haven't been back.

At the same time, a chance visit to
Knoll Gardens in Dorset became a huge source of inspiration and continues to remain so. This has led to a firm working relationship and great friendship between Neil Lucas and myself, and much of my work now appears in the Knoll Gardens catalogue and web site.

My speciality and passion for photography remains with all things botanical and have had really no desire to work in other fields of photography. Butterflies have become a recent exception as well as the sea near where I live in Poole. A page featuring ‘Seascapes’ will be added to the site soon.

I started my working life as a physiotherapist, and, happily I have been able to combine the two careers amicably, hence the name Fizzphotos…

To date......

Images have been published in magazines, newspapers and books, both nationally and worldwide including Country Living, Gardeners World and Garden Life as well as Practical Photography, Outdoor Photography and Digital SLR User magazine.

Several images have won awards in The RHS Photographer of the Year competitions over the last few years and some have made the finals of the Garden Photographers Association competitions and subsequent exhibitions at Kew.

2007 saw the launch of The International Garden Photographer of the Year Competition and I was delighted to have been placed in the GPA final three with my portfolio on ‘Grass Flowers’, especially in its inaugural year. The book that accompanies the competition is awesome and it is an honour to be in there.
Monochrome poked its head up again in 2007 with a series of successful exhibitions held locally on ‘Durlston’s Meadows’. I never thought that monochrome and the plant world would mix but I think it worked and I hope others thought so too.

Work is currently represented by Gap Photos and Alamy. I am also a member of the The Garden Photographers Association within the Garden Media Guild.

My Style......

Is more artistic than record, preferring to emphasise colour, form and texture. Close-ups, plant portraits, naturalistic gardens, wild flowers, meadows and coastal views all feature BUT with a creative edge.

I am particularly drawn to grasses in all their forms, individually and how they relate with other plants, bringing their meadow –like characteristics to gardens.

Nature is a pretty good designer…
